MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT: Alpha USA

Avatar photo

Alpha USA began its United States ministry in 1997 at its Chicago headquarters to create various forms of curriculum to help individuals explore the relevance of the Christian faith in small group and church-type settings.

The inspiration for the U.S. ministry originated in a church called Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB) in London in 1977.

The ministry’s primary curriculum, the Alpha series, explores the basics of the Christian faith over an 11-week period. Each session looks at a different question about faith, and includes discussions for small groups settings.

For 2021, the United States ministry program expenses can be broken down into the following three broad categories:

  • 60% of program expenses used for creating and providing specialty courses tailored to prisons, youth, college students, Catholics, and Latin Americans.
  • 35% of program expenses used to build relationships with churches in the United States to encourage them to use the Alpha course.
  • 5% of program expenses include creating and providing training materials to churches who use the Alpha course to show non-Christians the relevance of Christianity in their lives.

The aim of Alpha USA is to provide a practical introduction to the Christian faith via the curriculum it develops, facilitated in small group and church-type settings.
