A former pastor in rural Missouri who was among several church members involved in a sex abuse scandal in the early 2000s has been arrested and charged with raping a 10-year-old girl nine years ago.

Raymond L. Lambert II, 67, was arrested last week after a Missouri State Highway Patrol investigation of the alleged incident in 2013. According to an affidavit, the victim told law enforcement officials that Lambert sexually assaulted her in a dark shed when she was visiting a relative, and that the sound of a car on a nearby road had scared him into stopping.

Lambert, along with his wife, uncle and two brothers, all of whom who formerly served as leaders at Grand Valley Independent Baptist and Grand Valley Baptist Church North in Washburn, Missouri, were charged in 2006 with multiple sex offenses after women who were members of the churches came forward alleging abuse dating back to the 1970s, The Joplin Globe reported.

No one was convicted in the 2006 case as victims declined to testify.
