ONE YEAR AGO: On September 19, 2024, MinistryWatch reported that the Southern Baptist Convention put its Nashville, Tennessee, headquarters up for sale to help cover the $12 million that the denomination has spent dealing with sexual abuse by clergy. Read more here. 
TWO YEARS AGO: On September 20, 2023, MinistryWatch reported that former Baylor University Chi Alpha campus minister Chris Hundl and his mentor Daniel Savala were indicted by a McLennan County, Texas, grand jury on September 14 for indecency with a child and trafficking of persons. THREE YEARS AGO: On September 16, 2022, MinistryWatch reported that Movie Prop Rentals had filed a lawsuit against the Kingdom of God Global Church and Joshua Media Ministries, both led by self-proclaimed apostle David E. Taylor, to recover the cost of constructing a stage set that the plaintiff claims the church never paid for. The case has not yet been resolved, but Taylor has now been arrested and indicted for a forced labor and money laundering conspiracy that victimized individuals in Michigan, Florida, Texas, and Missouri.” Read more here.

FOUR YEARS AGO: On September 16, 2021, MinistryWatch reported that one of the primary insurers of the Boy Scouts of America had reached a tentative settlement agreement with the organization and with attorneys representing tens of thousands of men who say they were molested decades ago by scoutmasters and others. FIVE YEARS AGO: On September 18, 2020, MinistryWatch reported that less than a week after resigning as president of Liberty University, Jerry Falwell Jr. was injured in a fall after drinking, according to 911 transcripts and audio obtained by the Huffington Post. The Sept. 17 Huffington Post report said Falwell’s wife, Becki Falwell, called 911 on August 30 to report her husband had fallen down the stairs and was bleeding. According to the report, Becki Falwell told the dispatcher her husband had been drinking but would not say if he had been “drinking heavily.” Read more here.
