MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT: Coalition for Christian Outreach

Avatar photo

Coalition for Christian Outreach (CCO) began in 1971 to equip the church to reach colleges (students, faculty and staff) with the Gospel and train them to view life through a Christian worldview. The ministry first started in the area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but now has a presence on about 100 colleges throughout the United States (58 campuses in the eastern United States, 18 in the Midwest, 17 in the South, and four on the West Coast).

The ministry breaks down their task into three categories:

  1. Evangelistic efforts focused on the unchurched on college campuses—and in turn encouraging students to share their faith with others.
  2. Encouraging new Christians to get plugged into a local church. Staff takes time to build bridges, take students to church, and study Scripture together.
  3. Giving students a holistic vision for serving Jesus Christ in their studies, jobs, communities and families. This includes teaching students how their Christian faith impacts the way they study, listen to music, engage on social media, and interact with their friends and family. Each year CCO puts on an annual Jubilee conference to encourage students to dream about how their gifts might be used and developed to serve God.

CCO has reached more than 200,000 college students with the Gospel and seen more than 2,000 new professions of faith in the last 10 years.
