Adult & Teen Challenge, STARRY, plus churches and ministries providing care after Hurricane Ian

The executive director of Adult & Teen Challenge of Arkansas created Restoration Station, an umbrella ministry that oversees businesses to train rehab participants and students in practical life skills—including Restoration Station Wood Shop that restores old furniture donated to their thrift shop and Restoration Lawn Care. Adult & Teen Challenge USA has one star and an “A” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 74.

Churches in Florida are partnering with Nazarene Compassionate Ministries to provide care for victims of Hurricane Ian. Prior to making landfall as a Category 4 storm, churches organized people to fill sandbags, board up homes, and open and serve in storm shelters. Now, disaster response teams are cleaning up debris and distributing food and care kits. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries has five stars and an “A” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 92.

Less than a week after Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida, Mercy Chefs had served 107,958 hot chef-inspired meals to storm victims and emergency workers in Fort Myers. Mercy Chefs has four stars and a “D” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 56.

Gulf Coast Church of Christ is providing aid in partnership with Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort to neighbors in Fort Myers, Florida, after Hurricane Ian pummeled the area, including two semi-trucks full of food and cleaning supplies. 

September 2021, STARRY transitioned into an independent nonprofit following 30 years of service in Texas. In the months prior to that—between January 2021 and August 2021—STARRY worked with 3,677 youth and families, including licensing 23 foster families, overseeing the adoption of 12 children into forever families, and providing more than 13,000 counseling sessions. STARRY Inc. has five stars and a “C” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 92.
