Ministries Making a Difference
Emergency clean water, local church deaf ministry, off-grid public hygiene stations, new university president

Water Mission deployed a Disaster Response team to Union Island after Hurricane Beryl barrelled through the Caribbean last week, destroying 90% of the community’s structures. The team is setting up emergency clean water stations, which is critical following a natural disaster. Water Mission has 4 stars and an “A” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 100.

Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) in San Diego, California, announced the election of its 15th president, Kerry Fulcher. Fulcher, who was chosen from a pool of 150 candidates, has been the university’s provost and chief academic officer since 2010. “We know and believe the Holy Spirit is active and present within the PLNU community and we’re excited to partner together, moving into the good future God has in store,” Fulcher said. PLNU has 3 stars and an “A” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 76.
A group of Northwest Nazarene University engineering students and their professors partnered with Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) and others to build an off-grid public toilet with handwashing station at Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary. The prototype is part of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) project, and the goal is to build these systems in areas without connection to utilities, such as water, sewer and power. They can also be used at disaster sites. NCM has 5 stars, an “A” transparency grade, and a donor confidence score of 100—the highest ratings in each of our MinistryWatch database categories.
The Park Church of Christ in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is celebrating 50 years of ministry to the deaf community, which includes deaf translation during services, and a monthly worship service specifically for deaf ministry. The ministry began at a nearby church before transitioning to Park Church two decades later. Park Church also hosted the 61st National Deaf Christian Workshop at its campus this summer, where speakers encouraged churches interested in forming deaf ministries: “Just do it.”
