Christian Broadcasting Network Cuts Over 8% of US Jobs

CBN says job cuts are part of larger workforce realignment.

The Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), the Virginia Beach-based evangelical media organization best known for The 700 Club, has announced a workforce realignment that includes laying off roughly 8.4% of its U.S.-based employees, including about three dozen workers in the Hampton Roads area.

In a statement released this week, CBN said the decision was driven by the need to focus on “areas of growth and long-term impact” amid a changing media and fundraising landscape. The nonprofit, founded by televangelist Pat Robertson in 1960, said the cuts are part of a broader realignment intended to streamline operations and steward resources effectively in support of its mission and donor commitments.

CBN did not disclose the exact global number of jobs to be cut, but said the layoffs represent about 3.7% of its worldwide workforce. It also said its humanitarian arm, Operation Blessing, will not be affected. CBN has been a fixture in religious broadcasting for more than six decades, producing not only The 700 Club but also news and commentary programs such as CBN NewsWatch and Christian World News.

CBN’s leadership expressed gratitude for affected employees and pledged to continue advancing its media and outreach efforts with “excellence, innovation and integrity.”

“In a rapidly changing media and fundraising landscape, we are committed to being good stewards of the resources entrusted to us and to making thoughtful, necessary adjustments to streamline our systems in support of our mission and our donors,” said CBN.

The cuts at CBN arrive amid continued restructuring across media companies nationwide, where broadcasters and newsrooms have trimmed staff or reorganized to reduce costs and reallocate resources. In recent months, from legacy broadcasters to nonprofit public media, several local and national outlets have announced staffing shifts to adapt to evolving audience habits and financial challenges.

In the MinistryWatch database, CBN has 3 Stars, a C Transparency Grade, and a Donor Confidence Score of 81.
