No Final Deal Yet for Wycliffe’s 272-Acre Orlando Campus

Listed in early 2024, the 272-acre campus remains ‘under contract’ with no updates.

Back in February 2024, Wycliffe Bible Translators listed its 272-acre Orlando headquarters for sale. More than a year later, the status of the sale remains unclear, with the property still marked “under contract” on listings from LoopNet and First Capital Property Group, the brokerage representing the site.

The listing includes a 167,782-square-foot office building and 120,000 square feet of ancillary facilities, including an RV park, activity center, clinic, lodging and warehouses. FCPG describes the campus as ideal for users looking to occupy existing space while leaving room to expand. The property spans wetlands, mitigation areas, and pad-ready lots suited for future development.

Despite its prime Florida location near Lake Nona and Sunbridge, there has been no public announcement of a buyer or finalized sale. MinistryWatch’s multiple inquiries to FCPG and Wycliffe for updates went unanswered. According to Wycliffe’s 2024 financial statement, the sale process initiated by its board remains ongoing, with no completion expected during fiscal year 2025, which ends in September.

FCPG’s website pitches the property as an “unrivaled opportunity for a full campus user looking for their own headquarters within the metro area.” FCPG President Trent Scott has touted the campus as a “one-of-a-kind” rare find for a property of its size. In addition to being move-in ready with plenty of space for expansion, the site combines other advantages like proximity to recent residential developments and transportation options. Besides Wycliffe, among Scott’s clientele are other faith-based organizations like Man in the Mirror and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Though the listing does not disclose an asking price, valuation factors include the extensive Class ‘A’ office space. The Orange County Property Appraiser recorded a 2024 market value of $43.7 million for the main campus at 11221 John Wycliffe Blvd., and $5.6 million for multifamily buildings at 11437 Translation Way.

When announcing the sale in February 2024, Wycliffe mentioned plans to relocate its headquarters close to the existing site, aiming to “unlock underutilized resources” for its mission to make the Bible accessible in every language. Designed in the early 2000s for 800 people, the existing campus has been underutilized in recent years due to increased remote work and global activities. The organization also noted a global increase in local churches undertaking translation work, reducing the need for an equal number of U.S.-based participants.

“The sale of our global headquarters will help us marshal every resource at our disposal to press on toward seeing every person around the globe have access to a Bible in a language and format they can understand in our lifetime,” stated John Chesnut, president and chief executive officer of Wycliffe USA, in the press release.

Originating from California, Wycliffe moved its headquarters to Florida in the early 2000s after launching its “Vision 2025” program in 1999, a plan to initiate Bible translations in all necessary languages by 2025. The organization is now close to that goal, with only 833 languages left where translation has not yet started.
