MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT: Women’s Resource Medical Centers of Southern Nevada

Avatar photo

Women’s Resource Medical Centers of Southern Nevada began in 1984 with the goal to reduce the demand for abortion by supporting pregnant women and their families from a Christian worldview.

About 25 staff and 270 volunteers create awareness within the local community of Southern Nevada of the needs pregnant women face and explain how abortion compounds human need rather than resolve it.

The ministry provides clients with information about both prenatal development and abortion,  though staff and volunteers do not recommend, provide, nor refer for abortion or abortifacients. The ministry also encourages adoption as an alternative to abortion.

The ministry works to build a years-long relationship with clients, committing to care that begins with pregnancy and ends when the baby turns 3 years old. The ministry does not charge clients, but provides all services free of charge, by donor support.

The ministry provides holistic care with program case work, pregnancy tests, social model health assessments, and next step guidance that includes a counseling program, ultrasounds, supplies of prenatal vitamins, educational classes, potential issues of sexually transmitted diseases, aftermath of sexual trauma, PTSD, grief and loss issues, spiritual discipleship, prenatal care essentials, postpartum fundamental, parenting, and relationship and marriage counseling.

All Counselors received a certificate of completion through the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) Crisis Pregnancy Counseling. In addition, the ministry provides baby and maternity supplies to its clients with a boutique shop, using points moms earn by participating in its programs.  Clients can earn maternity and baby clothing, cribs, car seats, diapers, formula and other related items that will support them until their baby turns 3 years old.

The ministry focuses on this location of Southern Nevada because of the great need. Nevada is ranked 48th of the 50 states for its high percent of births to mothers with little or no prenatal care. In addition, Nevada averages about 11,000 abortions performed per year.

The Women’s Resource Medical Centers of Southern Nevada has reported that it has saved more than 10,000 babies who were vulnerable to abortion. The aim of Women’s Resource Medical Centers of Southern Nevada is to save the lives of unborn children by sharing the love of Jesus Christ through spiritual, physical, emotional and educational support of its clients.
