MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT: By The Hand Club For Kids

Avatar photo

By The Hand Club For Kids officially became an organized nonprofit ministry in 2005 as a Christ-centered after-school program in Chicago, Illinois. Leaders mentor kids in a safe place from kindergarten through college.

The ministry started in one location with 16 children, and has since grown to serve in five locations with about 1,700 kids. The locations were chosen throughout Chicago’s most challenging and under-resourced neighborhoods where the need was seen as the greatest.

The ministry works to show the love of Christ to young Chicagoans in critical need of hope, and to help them grow mentally, physically and spiritually.

Key outcomes for 2022:

  • 100% of high school seniors served by the ministry graduated and 61% enrolled in college or a technical school;
  • 91% of students passed all classes (the average GPA was 3.07);
  • 100% of students were offered a meal each day;
  • 554 received eye exams with 171 receiving glasses;
  • 787 received dental checkups and cleaning with 163 receiving additional dental care;
  • 84% of students professed faith in Christ and 38,711 hours were spent in chapel and Bible study.

The aim of By The Hand Club For Kids is to be a Christ-centered, after-school Chicago program that creates a safe space spiritually, physically and emotionally. It builds a positive new culture, develops kids with values, and provides role models for life.
