Ministries Making a Difference: Lifesong For Orphans, Medical Teams International, and More

Hope Place Church in Corbin, Kentucky, is opening a sober living house for men and women coming out of drug and alcohol rehab programs. Hope Place Church—which holds services outside for people who may not be comfortable coming into a church building—was born out of the Basket Ministry, a Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) distribution center that provides sanitary items like dish soap, laundry detergent and toilet paper to families in need.

NCM has five stars and an “A” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 96.

With the marking of one year since Russia invaded Ukraine, Medical Teams International (MTI) has been working to equip and strengthen local partners and health systems in Ukraine and Moldova. In the past year, MTI has supported almost 7,000 medical consultations with Ukrainians, provided technical and financial assistance to local partners, increased access to mental health support for victims, and distributed emergency supplies, such as generators and blankets. MTI has two stars and an “A” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 86.

Lifesong for Orphans recently announced the opening of Kharis House in Zambia, where pregnant girls can find sanctuary among four homes on its campus. Together, the homes comfortably hold up to 16 girls and 16 babies, plus house moms and mentors. Lifesong for Orphans has four stars and an “A” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 100.

A Village Missions missionary pastor is celebrating two years of his “Ask a Pastor” column in local newspapers that have a combined subscription of over 10,000 people in Kansas and Nebraska. Village Missions operates by sending “missionary pastors” into rural churches that would otherwise have to close. Village Missions has four stars and an “A” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 100.

Harvest Church in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, has partnered with local elementary schools to bus nearly 50 kids from school during their consecutive lunch and recess breaks to the church campus for an hour-long “Bible2School” program. Volunteers teach the Bible while students eat lunch, then facilitate crafts, review the lesson, and host worship.
