Kahlil Square, 27, pleaded guilty to first degree murder for shooting to death David Evans, a pastor at Harmony Free Will Baptist Church in Ada, on March 22, 2021, while Evans was asleep at home.

David Evans’ wife Kristie Evans was sentenced last month to life in prison with the possibility of parole for asking Square, with whom she had an ongoing sexual relationship, to murder her husband. She said she wanted Square to kill her spouse to free her from alleged abuse.

Kristie Evans said her husband coerced her into following a “swinger” lifestyle that included threesomes with Square and others and that she had been subjected to ongoing verbal and emotional abuse during her 30 years of marriage to the pastor, per Oxygen.

She said she had developed a separate affair with Square outside of the threesome relationship, and asked him to commit the murder.

Kristie Evans initially told 911 dispatchers an unknown intruder had entered their home and shot her husband, but three days later confessed to her involvement in the killing. She admitted to leaving the home’s back door open and giving Square a pistol and ammunition that belonged to her husband to commit the crime.

Prosecutors called Kristie Evans a “very good liar,” NBC News reported, and said she had exploited Square, whose lawyer Tony Coleman described as “just gullible enough to fall into her web of deception and manipulation.”

“She did a number on him,” Coleman said.

Square is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 15.
