Ministry Spotlight: The Acton Institute for the Study of Religious Liberty

Avatar photo

The Acton Institute’s Donor Confidence score has fallen from 58 to 56, meaning donors should “give with caution.”

The Michigan-based think tank promotes free market principles and religious liberty through seminars, research, and publications. They also host an 8-week Emerging Leaders Program for college students each summer.

It currently has $27.7-million in assets, but only spends about $9.6-million on programs. The organization’s net assets equal 235% of the total expenses for their programs. That means they have more than 2 years worth of program cost in net assets. In comparison, other organizations in their sector have 65%. This large asset holding is why the Acton Institute only has a 1-star rating for asset utilization, ranking 38th out of 42 in the Advocacy sector.

Additionally, in 2020 their net assets were $18.2-million, and by 2021 they were $26.4-million.
