Summary: Lutheran Services in America began in 1997 to provide various services to more than 300 independently operated Lutheran health and social services nonprofit organizations. Its staff of about 20 are located in Washington, D.C.

They advocate by providing a voice to many like-minded organizations, providing technical services, establishing connections and partnerships, and securing funding. As a “voice” of the many organizations, it provides a unified message and creates a brand name.
