Ministry Spotlight: Good News Productions, International
Ministry doesn’t file 990s, sees significant revenue increase
This month, Good News Productions, International (GNPI) saw its Transparency Grade change from a C to a D.
The organization, headquartered in Joplin, Missouri, does not release a form 990 to the public. Its Guidestar profile notes it is “not required to file an annual return with the IRS because it is a religious organization.” In addition, in a previous statement to MinistryWatch, GNPI said it is exempt from completing a 990 because “more than 51% of our resources are directed overseas.”
According to its website, “GNPI creates relevant media to proclaim the Good News and empower Jesus followers to do the same. We do this through a network of international teams, who use all forms of media to reach the hearts of their people and multiply disciples across the globe.”
The organization has numerous local teams around the world, in places like India, Africa, and Asia. Each local team focuses on different media initiatives, ranging from radio and TV broadcasts to short films and social media content.
According to a limited financial profile with the ECFA, GNPI saw a significant jump in revenue between 2021 and 2022. In 2021, the ministry had revenue of $2.2 million; just a year later, its total revenue was $10.7 million. That’s roughly a 486% increase in just a one-year period.
Its net assets also rose from $1.4 million in 2020 to $10.9 million in 2023.
Tom Nutt, vice president of operations, told MinistryWatch the increase was from an “unexpected estate gift.”
While GNPI does not post its financial information publicly, Nutt says donors are entitled to a copy of the organization’s financials—they just have to ask first.
