MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT: Buckner International

Buckner International has been ministering to families, needy children and the elderly since 1879.  It has been a tax-exempt organization since 1937.

The ministry began in Dallas, Texas, in a post-Civil War Texas, when its founder, “Father Buckner,” helping orphans. Today, the ministry has assisted living facilities, nursing, therapy, child development, and other facilities.

Camp Buckner Retreat conference center offers services to churches, youth groups, businesses and other various ministries. Family and Youth Success programs help families deal with overcoming struggles and challenges in healthy ways. Shine Hope program helps clients and families deal with issues such as runaways, truant, and delinquent behaviors. Aldine Family Hope Center designing structure holistic children’s programs for children providing academic learning opportunities, socialization literacy, arts, technology, and recreation.

Buckner also has a foster care program, with licensed foster homes and coordination of service providers, as well as foster care facilitation teams.  The ministry also has adoption program services staff and a “Foster-to-Adopt” program.

In addition, since 1999 its “Shoes for Orphan Souls” ministry has distributed more than 4 million pairs of new shoes and socks to children in 83 countries.
