Serving refugees, ministering to military, providing support in response to ethnic violence, and more

Samaritan’s Purse last week deployed a tractor-trailer stocked with tools and relief equipment to Perryton, Texas, after a deadly tornado ripped through the area, killing at least three people and destroying hundreds of homes. Teams of volunteers were also on scene clearing debris, tarping damaged roofs, and helping families salvage personal belongings. Samaritan’s Purse has two stars and an “A” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 60 (“Give With Caution”).

A team with Free the Oppressed, previously known as Free Burma Rangers, has spent the last year running a discipleship training program in Tajikistan for Afghan refugees who have converted to Christianity after fleeing Afghanistan following the removal of U.S. troops. They also started a home literacy school for illiterate Afghan women and children who are not allowed to attend Tajik schools. Free the Oppressed has four stars and an “A” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 92.

India Gospel League (IGL) is working to support displaced and vulnerable families in Manipur in Northern India after ethnic violence broke out in early May. IGL’s field workers are providing food, hygiene items, shelter and medical help. Also, IGL’s Love One More children’s home in Manipur is housing 20 girls. IGL has three stars and an “A” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 100.

In May, Cadence International sent out nine interns to five different locations around the world to serve military communities alongside active Cadence missionaries throughout the summer. Cadence has four stars and an “A” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 100.

Christian World Outreach trains West African girls in vocational skills such as sewing and cosmetology through its Village of Opportunity Program. Most girls in the area aren’t educated beyond basic elementary grades, so vocational training makes them less vulnerable to child marriage as they’re equipped to provide for themselves.
