Ministries Making a Difference
Sports outreach for men, pen pal prison ministry, a church ‘escape room’ fundraiser, and Trail Life USA
Kankakee First Church of the Nazarene in Illinois hosts community outreach through a men’s basketball league. What started as an open-gym concept in spring 2021 has grown to a league with 12 teams and 120 players ranging in age from 18 to 53 years old.
Since its inception in 2014, Trail Life USA—a scouting group launched as a Christian alternative to the Boy Scouts of America—has grown from 500 troops and 10,000 members to now boasting more than 50,000 active members, 20,000 adult volunteers, and 1,200 affiliated churches in all 50 states. Trail Life has one star and an “A” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 87.
Crossroads Prison Ministries is encouraging Christians to serve as pen pal-type mentors to prisoners by walking them through Crossroads Bible studies—a ministry geared well toward introverts or those in certain life seasons. Crossroads has three stars and an “A” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 74.
Aberdeen First Assembly of God in Aberdeen, South Dakota, hosted its Rescue Escape Room to raise money and awareness about human trafficking. The funds raised will go to support Project Rescue’s Village Project, which is working to break the cycle of sex slavery in Southern Asia by providing education and vocational training, performing medical and home repair outreaches, and through plans to build a safe home for girls.
