On December 27, identity theft charges against Tennessee Pastor Steven Flockhart were dropped.

According to reporting by Fox 13 in Memphis, court records show “the prosecutor or plaintiff has decided to abandon the prosecution or lawsuit” against the 901 Church pastor.

On November 2, Flockhart was arrested on one count of identity theft and one count of theft of merchandise between $2,500 and $10,000.

The alleged victim Mark McCall told Fox 13 the incident was “the absolute worst betrayal of my life, hands down.”

McCall, who says he was a long-time friend of Flockhart, claimed Flockhart requested his personal information in order to open a joint credit card for the church’s use.

Recently, McCall learned his credit score had dropped significantly. He then discovered an open credit card through PayPal that had a nearly $6,500 unpaid bill.

McCall claimed to have confronted Flockhart about the account and said Flockhart admitted to using McCall’s name to open it without his permission.

Flockhart is on probation in Georgia for another case related to using others’ names without their permission. Court records from Cherokee County, Georgia, show Flockhart used the names of church members to sign off on the lease of a commercial property without their consent, Fox 13 reported.

“I had no idea the signatures were forged. I had no idea until we started to try to call the people to track them down because we were owed money,” property owner Andrew Carmichael of Arnold Mill, LLC told Fox 13.

In 2012, Flockhart was a contestant on “American Idol” and NBC’s “The Voice.” However, the church website says, “God made it clear that he was supposed to walk away from what could have been a very prominent music career, and that he was supposed to [p]astor and [l]ead people to advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

He became pastor of 901 Church in 2018.

A statement posted on the church’s Facebook page November 3 said the church did not find the allegations made by McCall to be factual.
