Chuck Swindoll Announces Retirement
The 90-year-old preacher/author will turn focus to broadcast ministry

Pastor, author and radio personality Chuck Swindoll announced he will preach his final sermon as pastor in October.
Swindoll has been pastoring at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas, since 1998. The church posted a statement written by Swindoll on its website sharing his intent to retire from pastoral ministry.
“As I stand before you today, I find myself filled with a profound sense of gratitude and bittersweet reflection,” the statement reads. “After 26 incredible years as your senior pastor at Stonebriar Community Church, the time has come for me to retire from Stonebriar—and embrace a new chapter in my life.”
Still, at almost 90 years old, Swindoll insists his age will not keep him from continuing to serve in other ministry-related capacities. “Next month, I will joyfully celebrate the remarkable milestone of turning 90! Now, I have been told that I carry my years with a certain youthful spirit, and you know what? I believe it.”
Swindoll will turn his attention to his broadcast ministry, Insight For Living, which he has led and preached with for over 45 years. “At Insight for Living, I’ll be diving into weekly meetings, encouraging passionate young pastors, recording podcasts, and even writing a few books. Yes, you heard that right—just your average activities for a 90-year-old, right?”

Swindoll’s ministry influence has reached far and wide. At its peak, his broadcast ministry was carried by 2,100 radio outlets in all 50 states. He has written a number of widely sold books, like “The Grace Awakening,” “Hand Me Another Brick,” “Living the Proverbs,” “The Swindoll Study Bible” and his 10-book “Great Lives” series.
“I encourage you to continue living out the values we cherish, to support one another, and to love your neighbors as Christ loves us,” Swindoll concluded. “Remember, the church is not a building but a community of believers, and I have faith that you will continue to shine brightly in this world. Thank you for the honor of being your pastor. I will carry each one of you in my heart as I move forward.”
Jonathan Murphy, the former chair of Pastoral Ministries at Dallas Theological Seminary, will now serve as Stonebriar’s senior pastor.
