Praying for the Nation—and Strengthening Mothers Ministries mobilizing public prayer and supporting mothers.

Share

At MinistryWatch, our mission is to help Christians become more faithful, generous, and effective stewards of the resources God has entrusted to them. It’s why we advocate for transparency, accountability, and efficiency in Christian ministries. Because of that, we cover a lot of stories we’d rather not have to—stories of waste, fraud, and abuse.

But that’s not the whole picture. This column exists to amplify ministries doing excellent work—to spotlight ministries making a difference in their own communities and around the world.

As the National Day of Prayer and Mother’s Day draw near, this week’s roundup highlights ministries mobilizing believers to pray for our nation and strengthening mothers, including those who carry motherhood through the loss of a child.

Want to collectively participate in praying for our nation? Ahead of the National Day of Prayer (May 7), the National Day of Prayer Task Force has created a state-by-state gathering search to help people find prayer gatherings in their communities. There are gatherings listed throughout the country, including 29 in Colorado, 85 in Georgia, and in states like New York, California, and Texas, which are hosting well over 100 gatherings.

MinistryWatch scores the National Day of Prayer Task Force at 98 on its Donor Confidence Score and assigns a 4-star efficiency rating and a C Transparency Grade.

Moms in Prayer International

Moms in Prayer International organizes mothers into small groups to pray for their children, teachers, classrooms, and campuses. After signing up, a local leader provides information about groups in the area. If no group exists nearby, state leaders can help launch one. MinistryWatch recently highlighted this ministry in one of March’s Ministries Making a Difference columns.

Moms in Prayer earns high scores in the MinistryWatch database—4 stars for financial efficiency, an A Transparency Grade, and a Donor Confidence Score of 100.

Motherhood is joyful, but the role also comes with challenges, and many moms often need steady, biblical encouragement. Seven women saw that need in 1973, and their response helped spark what is now MomCo. MomCo (formerly Mothers of Preschoolers, or “MOPS”) began when women in their Colorado community invited moms in their community to meet regularly to grow as women, parents, and leaders—with the goal of reaching women with the hope of Jesus. Today, the organization is “The Mom Community,” a nonprofit that encourages and equips moms of young children to realize their potential “in relationship with Jesus and in partnership with the local church.”

MomCo says it now extends to 110+ countries, 30 languages, and 82,000+ meetings a year, influencing more than 3 million moms annually through local meetups. MomCo is promoting MOMCON 2026, its national gathering in Denver, Colorado, in September at the Gaylord Rockies Resort. MomCo has a 1 Star rating and a C Transparency Grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a Donor Confidence Score of 73 (Give with Confidence).

Embrace Grace

For Ruby, hearing other mothers’ stories reminded her she wasn’t alone. As a single mom raising a son with medical needs, she faced constant challenges, but support from Embrace Grace strengthened her faith.

Embrace Grace is a nonprofit that equips local churches to support women and families facing unexpected pregnancies. It connects pregnant single women, young single moms, and young fathers to 12-week small-group programs that combine practical teaching, mentoring, and community, so participants feel “seen, supported, and not alone.” Groups meet in churches nationwide and often culminate in a free baby shower with new baby items, plus a “Love Box” gift. The organization also offers resources for pastors and pregnancy centers and invites supporters to fund and volunteer for these church-based programs.

While Mother’s Day can be a pleasant time of honoring and remembrance, it can also be hard—especially for women who are mothers without their babies in their arms. M.E.N.D. is a ministry that creates spaces where grieving parents can connect, share their stories, and learn to live with loss. M.E.N.D. hosts support groups across the U.S., along with an online group for nationwide participants. It also offers commemorative ceremonies and publishes a free bi-monthly magazine for bereaved families. M.E.N.D. provides grief resources and keepsakes to help parents remember their babies and begin the healing process, and encourages support for fathers and siblings.

On May 3, M.E.N.D. kicked off M.E.N.D.ing Miles, a virtual 5K that runs through May 10—bookending International Bereaved Mother’s Day (May 3) and Mother’s Day (May 10).
