Ministries Making a Difference: Urban Outreach, Keys for Kids, World Orphans, Every Child Ministries

Urban Outreach, an Assemblies of God ministry headquartered in East St. Louis, Missouri, builds relationships with outcast and addicted people in inner city neighborhoods by bringing hot meals and coffee, and hosting children’s events. Urban Outreach leader Jay Covert has planted 11 centers in 10 cities over the last 23 years. A recent Urban Outreach plant in Phoenix helped 570 people get off the streets and into discipleship programs and emergency housing in 2022.

Every Child Ministries has launched a new program for girls in the Karamoja region of Uganda to provide job and education training. Over 700,000 girls in Uganda under the age of 12 have never been to school, and only one in five girls make it past eighth grade, according to Mission Network News.

Keys for Kids has partnered with World Orphans to provide audio resources to pastors in Guatemala to help share the Gospel with children and families who might not be able to read. The materials, such as Unlocked teen devotionals and Creature Feature Storytellers, have been translated into Spanish. Keys for Kids has three stars and an “A” transparency grade in the MinistryWatch database, and a donor confidence score of 96. World Orphans has five stars, an “A” transparency grade, and a donor confidence score of 96.

Christian orphanage Ciudad de Angeles—City of Angels in English—in Cozumel, Mexico, recently celebrated 20 years of ministry. Since 2002, the orphanage has grown from a rented home to 10 acres of land that hosts six houses, sports courts, playgrounds, counseling services, and transitional apartments for young adults. City of Angels is supported by eight Churches of Christ congregations throughout the U.S., and currently cares for 29 children and young adults.
