Advancement Coaching and Consulting—a nonprofit that supports pastors and people in ministry through leadership training, community evangelism strategies, coaching, and consulting—named the recipients of its 2022 Advancement Outreach Grant earlier this month, meant for smaller churches with fewer than 150 in average attendance each week. The grants, totaling $11,000, will be distributed amongst five pastors/churches with local outreaches, including Ascension Church’s outreach to unchurches parents connected to their preschool and Freedom Place Church’s student mentoring and school outreach.

Founder and pastor of The Orchards Church in Lander, Wyoming, Todd Pettibone, raised more than $1,000 and connected with his community by swimming 1,000 laps from September to December 2021. Pettibone, 43, made the commitment in order to connect with the local community—known for its men’s state swimming titles—despite never having swam laps before. The money went to Speed the Light and Boys & Girls Missionary Challenge, two Assemblies of God missions ministries. A 5th grader from Orchards even joined him for 100 laps and raised $166 for BHMC.

An Ohio church has teamed up with two local recovery centers to expand services to people working to overcome alcohol and substance abuse. Brunswick Church of Nazarene is partnering with Cathy’s House and Hope Recovery Community, both based in nearby Medina. Cathy’s House is renovating a vacant house owned by the church to provide five beds for men working through the program. The home is slated to open next month. Hope Recovery Center is opening a satellite office at the church this spring.
