As part of our effort to highlight the features of the MinistryWatch 1000 Database, we are going to publish two lists per month. This month, we bring you a second list from the database, featuring the largest community development organizations for the first time.
“This category is one of the more unusual categories in our database. These ministries are not exclusively about evangelism and discipleship, though evangelism and discipleship might happen. In general, we include these ministries because they are concerned with human flourishing at the grass roots level, and they do their work as a response to their commitment to Christ,” said MinistryWatch president Warren Smith.
The largest organization on this list by far is The Salvation Army with over $4.7 billion in total revenue. It does not file a Form 990 with the Internal Revenue Service, so the total revenue listed came from the group’s 2024 annual report.
Rounding out the top five largest groups are Habitat for Humanity, Christian Appalachian Project, YMCA of the USA, and International Justice Mission, all of which have total revenue exceeding $100 million annually.
