It’s a Wrap
The Skit Guys ends ministry after co-founder admits ‘moral failure’
Longtime Christian sketch-comedy and drama ministry The Skit Guys has officially ended after nearly 30 years following the abrupt departure of co-founder Eddie James, who stepped down due to what the group described only as a “moral failure.”

The announcement, posted on the group’s website and shared in a video by fellow founder Tommy Woodard, stunned longtime supporters who have relied on The Skit Guys’ blend of humor, drama, and faith-based storytelling.
The ministry statement stated simply: “After almost 30 years of ministry together, The Skit Guys, as you know us — that’s coming to an end.”
Woodard confirmed that James “had to step away from our ministry after he revealed choices he had made leading to a violation of our ministry’s standards and God’s requirements for marriage and ministry.” The group has declined to share further details, citing privacy and accountability concerns.
In the wake of the split, Woodard announced a new chapter on his website: the formation of a creative initiative called 231 Collective. He described this venture as a spiritual and artistic rebirth — a commitment to producing faith-based media under a generosity-funded model, including children’s series, films, books, and more.
Since its beginnings in youth-group performances at a Baptist church in Oklahoma, The Skit Guys grew into one of the most influential providers of church media across evangelical communities. Their output, sermon illustrations, short films, seasonal mini-movies and full-length productions, found renewed demand during the COVID-19 pandemic, when families and congregations leaned heavily on online resources. According to the The Roys Report, their 2022 theatrical release, Family Camp, marked their reach into feature-film territory.
Woodard acknowledged the painful toll the separation has taken — both personally and professionally — but asked supporters to pray for both founders and their families as they process the change and move into what he called a new season of creative ministry.
As of now, James has not released a public statement.
