NC Megachurch Pastor Divorces Wife
Court documents reveal he lives in $2.8-million mansion.
Gilbert Andre Thompson Jr., pastor of megachurch World Overcomers Christian Church in Durham, N.C., has divorced his wife of 33 years. The divorce was final on July 1.

As part of the divorce proceedings, the assets of Pastor Andy Thompson, as he is known, came to light.
He apparently lives in a home valued at $2.85 million, according to reporting by The Roys Report. The real estate website Zillow shows the home in Mebane, N.C., is over 10,000 square feet with four bedrooms and six bathrooms, a pool, a hot tub, and a gym.
County property records list the owner as Restore Community Development Corporation, a North Carolina non-profit corporation.
The couple also owned a rental property in Rocky Mount, N.C. Dequilla Thompson will retain ownership of that property, valued at about $125,000.
According to the settlement agreement, Andy Thompson will retain control of his company, Thompson Communications Group, and is required to remove Dequilla Thompson from the company’s corporate documents as secretary and indemnify her against any actions taken against the company.
He is also required to pay a $25,000 debt owed to the Internal Revenue Service.
Andy Thompson will pay his ex-wife $12,000 per month in alimony for nine years.
In addition, Thompson must pay Dequilla Thompson a distributive award of $50,000. Until it is paid, she need not deed her property interest in a 58-acre parcel to Andy Thompson.
The couple had four children together, all of whom are now adults.
Andy Thompson filed for the “absolute” divorce in June. The couple declared in court documents they had been separated since March 2023.
In North Carolina, an absolute divorce is the term for no-fault divorce—a spouse need not prove any wrongdoing by the other spouse. The couple must prove they have lived apart for at least 12 months finalizing the divorce.
Andy Thompson founded World Overcomers Christian Church in 2003. It claims over 15,000 members. According to his biography on the church website, Thompson authored a book titled “Real Love Marriage,” which it claims was an “impactful, life-changing tool that [is] redefining marriage and family dynamics in the modern era.”
He also founded the Overcomers Christian Fellowship to influence and minister to other church pastors.
