Mission Statement [ Back to top ]

Turkish World Outreach's Purpose Statement is:

To evangelize Turks by any means possible. Initially, the best means was to invite Turks to know more about Jesus through Gospel letters sent by Christians.

Program Accomplishments [ Back to top ]

During 1998 TWO received 318 individual responses. Each respondent was sent a Turkish New Testament and Jesus Film video. TWO arranged for each respondent to be contacted by a Christian and to be offered a free Bible correspondence course. TWO follows up with a face-to-face visit to expresses a continuing and deep interest.

Prayer Mobilization
Prayer through Jesus Christ empowers. Prayer is a very important part of TWO's ministry. TWO's prayer partners, and volunteers in many countries pray for Gospel letter respondents, for the countries of the Turkic world, and for the agencies' missionaries and ministries in this vast region. Turkish World Outreach's Call to Prayer (CTP) informs concerned Christians in 67 countries about the Turkic world and major items for intercession.

In 1998, they distributed the CTP six times (every other month) to approximately 10,000 prayer partners each mailing.

Call to Prayer
In 1998 TWO started translating the Call to Prayer into Spanish and Portuguese with distribution in Latin America and Spain.

Weekly Prayer
In addition to the Prayer Mobilization program, the TWO home office staff gathers for an hour of prayer three times a week and for an extended period once a month to pray individually for requests submitted by mail, fax, phone, or e-mail from supporters, field workers and others.

Pen-Friends
Turkish students are assigned Christian pen-friends in the West. This helps the Turkish students improve their English and offers Westerners the opportunity to share their faith with Turks.

Since 1985, TWO has introduced 34,500 Christian and Turkish pen-friends. In 1998, 1,442 Turks were assigned to 1,167 Christian pen-friends.

FIELD SERVICE
TWO created a Field Department in 1996 to recruit, prepare and supervise Christian workers to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with Turks. The Field Department has six personnel at the home office and 11 workers in the field.
2 in Germany
1 in Kyrgyzstan
5 in Turkey
3 in the USA

In 1998, TWO sent three new workers to Turkey and Kyrgyzstan and evaluated 12 new applicants. TWO also sent two candidates to the Lincoln Christian Seminary in Chicago to learn about Islam and how to evangelize Muslims.

Statement of Faith [ Back to top ]

Turkish World Outreach's Statement of Faith is:

The Bible is the inspired, infallible, authoritative and unique Word of God. It is the true center of Christian unity and is the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds and opinions are to be tried.

There is but one true and loving God, eternally existent in three persons - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His present mediatorial work in Heaven, and in His personal return in power and glory.

All men have sinned and can only be reconciled to God through genuine repentance of sin and faith in God through Jesus Christ. True repentance and faith will be evidenced by obedience to God's commands.

We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit, whose indwelling and present ministry enables the Christian to live a godly life. A life of consecration and purity is the privilege and duty of every believer.

Baptism and the Lord's Supper have been established by Christ for observance by all Christians.

There is to be a resurrection of both the righteous and unrighteous, with certainty of judgment. We believe in the existence of a literal and eternal Heaven and Hell.

Satan is an actual person - the greatest enemy, mightiest tempter, and most relentless accuser of the saints.

It is the duty of all followers of Christ to seek scriptural fellowship and harmony with other believers.

History [ Back to top ]

Turkish World Outreach (TWO) was founded in 1969 as Friends of Turkey, and continues its postal evangelism ministry under that name. The purpose of TWO is to evangelize Turks by any means possible. Initially, the best means was to invite Turks to know more about Jesus through Gospel letters sent by Christians. Each month, throughout the world thousands of Gospel Letters are mailed to Turks in many countries telling them about the love of Jesus Christ. In 1993, the Lord called upon TWO to set its mind, it purpose and its goals toward establishing churches of Turkic believers throughout the Turkic world.

Shining Light [ Back to top ]

2008 MinistryWatch.com Shining Light top ministry list
2007 MinistryWatch.com Shining Light top ministry list

Analyst Comments [ Back to top ]

Turkish World Outreach listed by MinistryWatch.com as a 2008 Shining Light ‘Top 30’ Exemplary Ministry.

MinistryWatch.com desires to see overall giving to Biblical Christian values increase and as such we developed this format to highlight those ministries which are exemplary. This ministry is one of the “best ministries” and outstanding examples when we consider Philippians 4:8 and weigh and take account of those ministries that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Identifying a diversity of the best ministries is challenging given the selfless work that so many do for the cause of Christ. No one is able to give to every ministry that one values as we are not possessed of unlimited resources. It is best to make an assessment of our options and make discerning decisions. MinistryWatch.com’s assessment looked at the following seven areas when considering those to make the list:

  1. Transparency
  2. Truth Claims
  3. Values/ Worldview
  4. Sectors/Functions
  5. Resourcefulness
  6. Red Flag Issues
  7. Consultation
A fuller explanation of our evaluation criteria is on the front page of MinistryWatch.com. A foundational premise was to shine a figurative light on those ministries that were "Christian" more than in name only. Ministries were chosen that were not just marketing to Christians as a market segment for "Christian donor money", but ministries that had theological underpinnings and Biblical values that determined their actions. Organizations that relied more on a secular motivation and means were excluded as well as those “ministries” that seem to view the organization as their own vehicle as a business to make money rather than a love to maximize ministry to others and to let their light shine for the glory of God.

Inclusion on this Shining Light list does not mean this ministry or other listed ministries are perfect. No ministry is perfect and any that look long and hard enough may find areas for improvement; as no doubt most legitimate ministries are aware of areas to improve and have their own to-do list. Only you can decide for yourself with confidence if a ministry shares your values and with your giving plan. As far as MinistryWatch.com’s assessment, given the criteria that we followed, this ministry rose to the top.

This is just another step in our mission of encouraging Christians to give more of their talents and resources to Kingdom-building efforts. In short, we wish to help spread the Gospel of Christ by helping Christians give more and more effectively to the works of the Lord. If the Lord uses our list as part of that process, we will have been a blessing to both those ministries who have been ‘good and faithful servants’ with the Lord’s resources and to Christian donors who are seeking to be good stewards of their giving.
